Among thermos-responsive polymers, many attentions have been focused on polymers that show lower critical solution temperature (LCST) transition in aqueous solutions due to mainly biological applications. In this study, we investigated the effect of the systematically tuned transition temperature (Ttr) of A block to the nano-particles or hydrogel formed by ABA triblock copolymers. Two ABA triblock copolymers, A block of poly isopropyl glycidyl ether (Ttr < 0 C) or poly ethyl glycidyl ether (Ttr ~ 15 C @ 1 wt%) and B block of PEO were anionically synthesized. We observed that gel temperature (Tgel) where hydrogel is formed is well above Ttr of A homopolymer, Tgel decreases as polymer concentration increases, and hydrogel junctions are packed onto body-centered-cubic lattice. The results are discussed in terms of current understanding of triblock copolymer solution self-assembly, and particular attention is paid to the structure-properties relationship. |
