A dental shielding membrane is a membrane for guided bone regeneration in dental implant application, shields the epithelial cells during bone regeneration, and protects the implant from the outside environment. Recently, Poly(L-lactic acid) is a biodegradable polymeric material which is approved by the FDA and has become popular as a shield for dentistry. PLLA has basic properties such as biodegradability, biocompatibility, bioactivity, and safety. So, in this study, after manufacturing PLLA shielding membrane using the phase method, the samples placed in a constant temperature water bath maintained at 37℃ to carry out biodegradation experiments. The mechanical properties of the shielding membrane were confirmed after a certain period of time. It can be seen that the mechanical properties of the shielding membrane are not significantly changed in the beginning and start to decrease while the PLLA hydrolysis progresses after six months and finally broke down. |
