Electrically conductive polymer composites (ECPCs) have been receiving a lot of attention in both the scientific and engineering communities because of their unique electrical and mechanical properties. The resistivity of ECPCs is sensitive to various thermodynamic parameters, such as pressure, temperature and so on. These ECPCs promise to be the next generation of cheap and flexible sensors due to their flexibility and ease of processing. In this study, we fabricated ECPCs by using multiwall carbon nanotube (MWNT) as conductive filler and various rubbers as an insulating polymer matrix. For homogeneous dispersion of MWNT in the rubbers, MWNT was modified via polymer wrapping and/or chemical modification with a coupling agent. The well-dispersed MWNT/rubber nanocomposites showed good piezoresistive property with increased reproducibility under applied pressure. |
