Cylindrical micelle templating: An efficient tool for fabricating polypyrrole nanotubes |

Polypyrrole nanotubes were easily fabricated by chemical oxidation polymerization in sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) reverse (water-in-oil) emulsions. AOT reverse cylindrical micelles were prepared through a cooperative interaction between aqueous FeCl3 solution and AOT surfactant in hexane. Subsequently, pyrrole monomers were chemically polymerized by iron cations along the surface of AOT reverse cylindrical micelles. The resulting PPy nanotubes exhibited smaller diameters and higher aspect ratios than existing PPy tubes prepared by other soft-template approaches. Furthermore, the electrical conductivity of the nanotubes was also enhanced. |
