Radioactive cesium, Cs-137 and Cs-134, are produced by nuclear fission of uranium. Especially Cs-137 is known as the most hazardous radioisotope, since it has longer half-life than other radioactive elements, high solubility in water, and strong gamma ray sources. For this reason, studies on removal of radiocesium have been investigated actively. Prussian blue is universally known as good remover of Cs ion because of its strong attraction with cesium ion. Herein, we prepared Prussian blue-contained porous hydrogels as adsorbent for Cs uptake. Inverse opal hydrogel and inverse high internal phase emulsion hydrogel are used as structural substrate to fix Prussian blue for high surface area. These products can be applied to various fields such as radioactive waste purification filter, medicine for internal exposure and seawater filter for fish farm. |
