Dependence of Microwave Dielectric Properties on the Crystallization Behavior of Wollastonite-Diopside Glass-Ceramics |

Effect of crystallization behavior on the microwave dielectric properties of wollastonite-diopside glass-ceramics was investigated as a function of heat-treatment method. The glass powders were obtained by single and/or stepped quenching process. For the stepped quenching glass powders, the specimens heat-treated at 900oC for 3h showed the higher degree of crystallization of β-wollastonite than that of the single step quenching. This could be a reason of the improved quality factor (Qf) value of the specimens prepared by stepped quenching. Two-step heat-treatment was applied to increase the nucleation site and the degree of crystallization of the glass-ceramics. The Qf of the specimens heat-treated by two-step method showed the higher Qf value than that of the single-step heat-treatment. Also, the Qf value increased with holding time at nucleation temperature, which could be attributed to the increase of the degree of crystallization. Dependence of the dielectric constant (K) and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (TCF) on the crystallization behavior was also discussed. |
