Carbon foams with the high compressive strength and electric conductivity were successfully prepared by polymer sponge replication method. Polyurethane (PU) foams were chosen as a template, because PU foams are pyrolyzed at carbonization temperature. PU foams were immersed into three carbon precursor resins (resorcinol-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde and phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde resins). Immersed foams were pre-cured at 120℃, and then carbonized by elaborately controlling their carbonization temperature. The resultant carbon foams had large number of open macro-pores. Their mechanical and electrical properties are affected by carbon precursor and increase when carbonization temperature is higher. Therefore, the electrical and mechanical properties can be adjusted by controlling carbonization temperature and carbon precursor. |
