A new electro-active polymer hydrogel, poly(methyl 2-acetamidoacrylate) (PMAA) hydrogel, was prepared by radical polymerization using 2, 2'-[(1, 4–dioxo-1, 4-butanediyl)diimino] bis(2-propenoic acid) (DBDBPA), whose structure is analogous to MAA’s one, as a crosslinking agent and its electroactive behavior was investigated in a NaCl aqueous solution . The hydrogel was de-swelled in the acidic condition and swelled in the basic condition. Under the applied voltage in solution, PMAA hydrogel exhibited fast displacement in 1wt% NaCl electrolyte aqueous solution. The electrical field applied simultaneously caused PMAA hydrogel to swell at anode and de-swell at cathode. The response rate of the PMAA hydrogel increased with increasing voltage. Furthermore, the response rate remained nearly constant during the repeated motion. |
