Rigid polyurethane foam (PU foam) is one of the good insulation materials and it is used in various industrial applications. Gas species in the cells mainly affect thermal conductivity of PU foams. Thermal properties are also affected by cell morphology (average cell size, size distributions). Cell morphology affect the radiation thermal conductivity. For analyzing morphological variation of PU foams, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Image pro program were used. The thermal conductivity of each sample was measured using heat flowmeter(HFM). And FT-IR spectroscopy is used for analyzing radiation thermal conductivity. The cell size can be controlled through silicon surfactant and reaction rate. The smaller the cell size, the lower the radiation thermal conductivity. The reason of decrease is interference with photon progress. |
