A hydrogel-based soft material similar to the physical properties of extracellular matrix (ECM) has been studied as a facial mask material. In this study, the hydrogel mask was designed to self-transform using a multi-layered and compartmented hydrogel. The hydrogel consisting of two layers with different swelling ratios were fabricated to have specific radius of curvature by self-folding assembly at facial skin temperature. The radius of curvature formed by self-folding increases the adhesion between the mask pack and the curved skin, such as the nose and chin. In addition, a multi-compartmented hydrogel could be introduced different effective substances for each facial part and the release rate could be controlled through different mechanical properties. Overall, this new strategy to prepare the hydrogel mask using the multi-layered and compartmented hydrogels would be directly applied for developing 4D mask pack. |
