Silver Nanoplates-Based Sensing Platform for the Quantification of Water in Water-Ethanol Mixtures |

Triangular Ag nanoplates exhibit tunable plasmonic properties across the entire visible spectrum and in the NIR region through careful control of the aspect ratios of their structures also show fascinating plasmonic properties. This instability can be used as sensing platform for the quantification of water in water-ethanol mixtures. Bromide ions was used in such application to degrade the Ag nanoplates and made the sharp corners became rounded and show a fascinating color change. The introduction of KBr was found to be strongly correlated with volume fraction of water in the mixture of water-ethanol in the rate of change of the color and spectral features of a water-ethanol mixture containing Ag nanoplates. This colorimetric sensing platform was applied to determining the volume fraction of water in water-ethanol mixtures having any water volume fraction also in water-isopropanol mixtures, suggesting that it could furthermore be applied to mixtures of water and other alcohols as well |
