Polymer latex has been used in classical areas for decades and now being used as biomaterials and optical/electric/electronic materials. In the process of dispersion polymerization, the steric stabilizer is essential to stabilize formed particles into spherical shape. But, the stabilizer remains on the particle surface after polymerization, either by physical adsorption or by chemical bond. The stabilizer moiety brings out environmental pollution, cost increase of the product, effects on the particles’ ultimate properties and migration of stabilizer. In this work, we present new findings that polymer microspheres can be successfully synthesized without any steric stabilizer in dispersion polymerization. |
