Self-assembly of supramolecules consisting of block copolymer and amphiphilic molecule lead to hierarchical sturcture that has two different characteristic length scales. As for template applications, the amphiphilic molecules may be simply removed by dissolving them in a selective solvent after the self-assembly process has been completed. In this work, phase morphology in thin films of comb-coil block copolymers was investigated to see the effects of selective addition and elimination of surfactants. Complex systems consisting of PS-b-PEO block copolymer and DBSA surfactant are used as a model system for hierarchical structure. The self-assembly between PS and PEO(DBSA) leads to order on the large length scale, whereas self-assembly on the short length scale take place within the PEO(DBSA) domains. Block copolymers with different structures are complexed with surfactants and their resulting structures and properties are examined. |
