The chitin/chitosan is natural polysaccharides composed of acetyl glucosamine/glucosamine, which can be applied as guided bone regeneration. The physical/biological property of chitosan was effected by the ratio of amino/acetamido groups. We studied variation of the properties according to the degree of acetylation of chitosan; crystalline structure, absorptivity, surface energy, bioadsorption, tenacity, biodegradability, apatite-formation, and osteoblast-compatibility. Chitosan showed gradually the chracteristic of chitin by acetylation. Hydrophilicity of chotosan was increased with increasing the degree of acetylation up to about 50% ratio of amino/acetamido groups, which caused the increase of water-absorption, biodegradation, tenacity, and caused the decrease of crosslinking density and adsorption of bioactive chemicals. Cabonate hydroxyapatite(Ca/P=1.63) was formed on the surface of modified chitosan film in SBF. All samples had non-toxicity and good viability of human osteoblast. |
