Disparities in the band structure of SnS polymorphs and their assessment towards thin-film solar cell application |

Tin sulphide (SnS) is extensively explored for green energy. Cubic SnS is one of the promising binary chalcogenides for solar cell applications. Cubic SnS is paid more attention because of its “asymmetrical center” with low-temperature processing advantages. Compared to conventional polymorph of SnS (orthorhombic), cubic SnS is a metastable (thermodynamic) compound having 1.7 eV band gap. However, owing to its structural feasibility, cubic SnS is practically anticipated for solar cell applications. On this account, it is highly necessary to understand the structure and synthesis induced band variations of this polymorph. Therefore, in the current study we have grown cubic SnS at low-temperature condition using chemical bath deposition to evaluate the optical properties with various thicknesses. Band positions were characterized thoroughly and comparted with that of orthorhombic counterpart. We believe such comparative optical analysis may cast more light on the finding suitable buffer components towards fabricating an efficient solar cell. In addition, this work may also be considered as a rudimentary study for other green energy applications |
