Volatile Fatty Acids Production from Brown Seaweed |

Volatile fatty acids (VFAs) is intermediate for bioalcohol fuelprocess and brown seaweed is great source for VFAs production. In this research,the fermentations were operated at temperature 35 oC, pH 7 and iodoform (CHI3) as inhibitor under anaerobic condition by sewage sludge. There fixed-bed fermentors (F1-F3) were used for digest algae with variable microorganism amount. Seaweed was used in each fermentor at 18 g/L. It is found that the highest yield of volatile fatty acids is 6.0 g/L at fermentor with 60 mL microorganism. |
