제목 Fabrication of Silica-Polymer Core-Shell Nanoparticles for Biocidal Application
초록 Silica-poly(1-chloro-3-allyl-5,5-dimethyhydantoin-co-methylmethacrylate) (poly(CADMH-co-MMA)) core-shell nanoparticles were fabricated using a seeded polymerization. To control the shape and diameter of silica-poly(CADMH-co-MMA) core-shell nanoparticles, colloidal silica nanoparticles of different diameters (7, 12, and 22 nm) were used as a core material. The silica-polymer core-shell nano particles had the uniform polymer shell with thickness of about 2 nm. These core-shell nanoparticles demonstrated superior antibacterial activities against both gram-positive (S. aureus) bacteria as well as gram-negative (E. coli) bacteria. Moreover, the antibacterial properties of silica-poly(CADMH-co-MMA) nanoparticles increased with decreasing the size of silica-polymer core-shell nanoparticles. This is because the silica-polymer core-shell nanoparticles have the enhanced active site to contact bacteria due to the high surface area of core-shell nanoparticles.
