Silica fillers were modified by plasma polymerization coating of 1,3-diaminopropane, allylamine, pyrrole, 1,2-epoxy-5-hexene, allylmercaptan and allylalcohol using RF plasma (13.56 MHz), and mixed with biphenyl epoxy resin, phenol novolac (curing agent), and/or triphenylphosphine (catalyst). Samples were also prepared from as-received silica fillers, monomer for plasma polymerization coating, biphenyl epoxy resin, phenol novolac (curing agent), and/or triphenylphosphine (catalyst). Chemical reaction between the functional groups on the plasma polymer coated silica fillers and epoxy resin was evaluated by DSC. In DSC analyses, the monomers containing amine group showed exothermic peaks at lower temperature than those containing oxygen and sulfur groups. |
