A simple and versatile approach to control the morphologies of block copolymer nanocompoaites, consisting of polystyrene-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PMMA) diblock copolymer and thermally stable gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) was developed. Also, we developed a method to synthesize amphiphilic Au NPs, called as Janus NPs, and nanocomposites consisting of the Janus NPs and diblock copolymer. By tuning the surface property using the synthesized ligands we were able to improve the stability of Au NPs and Janus NPs at high temperature and control the location of the NPs within the polymer matrix. Based on the caluculated adsorption energy of NPs, the Janus Au NPs could be easily positioned at the PS/PMMA interface and a bicontinuous morphology of the nanocomposites was achieved due to the large adsorption energy of Janus Au NPs. |
