Two-dimensional (2D) materials have been extensively studied because of their unique physical properties. Also, they have been considered for membrane materials because they already have membrane platforms and play a significant role in changing separation performance of existing polymeric membranes. For example, graphene oxide (GO), a highly oxidized graphene nanosheet, can be easily prepared in the form of membrane1, showing many interesting separation performances for gas separation as well as liquid separation2-4. Differing from polymeric membranes, selective transport through such GO membranes occurs via 2D nanochannels that can be also tuned by various preparation techniques. Also, the incorporation of 2D nanosheets into polymeric membranes often leads to the improvement of selectivity, the prevention of plasticization, and the increase of mechanical and chemical properties even at small loading content. |
