제목 Flexible Optical Waveguide Prepared by Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Material
초록 Optical waveguide devices are one of key optical elements in optical interconnects and optical communications. We synthesized a series of organic-inorganic hybrids and produced the crack-free and thick films without high volume shrinkage during treatment of the films. The tunability of the refractive index allows us to fabricate step-index optical waveguide structures with well-defined and reproducible refractive index differences to within 0.001. Another advantage of these materials in uses is mechanical integrity, such as flexibility, toughness and adhesion, which are successfully tailored to meet the needs of specific optical applications. We demonstrated the first example of a flexible optical waveguide using these sol-gel hybrid materials, based on a soft-lithography technique. The bending losses of the flexible waveguide array yielded no additional loss above 2 mm diameter curvature. The electrical output signal from a photodetector showed a clear 5 and 10 Gbps eye pattern.
