We have recently reported that the iron(II)-catalyzed ATRP of MMA with phosphorus-containing ligand was well-controlled and gave polymers with low polydispersities(<1.3) and molecular weights, which agreed with the theoretical values. Furthermore we performed polymerization of MMA catalyzed by iron(III)/phosphorous ligands. The results showed that molecular weights matched the theoretical values better, and the molecular weight distributions(1.04-1.17) were narrower. It means the iron(III)-catalyzed ATRP of MMA with phosphorous-containing ligands is better system than conventional system. Hereupon we also conducted iron(III)-catalyzed ATRP of MMA using R2P-PR2 as ligands. We observed that iron(III)-catalyzed polymerization of MMA with R2P-PR2 ligands was relatively better than iron(II)-catalysed system. However it turned out that the controbility of R2P-PR2 ligands is poor. Accordingly, it is hard to say that the system of FeBr3 and R2P-PR2 ligands are appropriate for ATRP system. |
