Effect of planar or electron-withdrawing unit in conjugated polymer for ambipolar organic thin-film transistors |

Organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) based on conjugated polymers are gaining attention due to their potential in solution processability and flexibility on the plastic substrate. For high-performance materials in OTFTs, conjugated polymers usually have planar backbone structures and alternation of electron donor (D) /acceptor (A) unit which are beneficial to achieve extended π–electron system and strong intermolecular interactions. D-A combination allows to adjust energy levels to realize the ambipolar OTFT properties. Due to its coplanar fused rings and imine groups, thiazolothiazole (TTz) unit shows strong π-π stacking and electron accepting tendency. Thienylenevinylene (TV) also has good planarity and an extended π-conjugation system because of the presence of a vinylene spacer. In this study, we present synthesis of TTz-TV copolymer and other two comparable materials to check the variation of the planarity and the tendency of ambipolar charge transport behavior. |
