제목 Fabrication of gelatin microcapsules for electrophoretic display
초록 Electrophoretic display has attracted much interests of many research groups due to high reflectivity, low power consumption and high contrast ratio. For electrophoretic display, microcapsules are used to prevent the lateral movement and aggregation of color pigments in the electric fields. Although melamine or urea microcapsules produced by in-situ polymerization has been widely used, we fabricated gelatin microcapsules by the coacervation process, which was expected to provide the monolayer coverage more easily. Most microcapsules fabricated by the coacervation method have been crosslinked with aldehyde at lower than 10 ℃. However, we found that more stable microcpasules were produced when the crosslongking was done at progressively higher temperature from 11 ℃ to 55 ℃ The morphologies of the gelatin microcapsules were confirmed by SEM and OM. Futhermore, the chemical structures of the microcapsules and the thermal stability were characterized by IR and TGA, respectively.
