For the past three decades, extensive research has been performed in the design of the novel functional polymers for a variety of biomedical applications.Among them of interest are bioactive materials containing biomolecules like drug, protein/peptide and cell.The concept involves the preparation and modification of biomaterials to provide an improved biocompatibility by incorporation of bioactive molecules, physically or chemically.These new materials have been tailored to interact more on a protein and cellular level to achieve high degrees of biospecificity, bioactivity and functionality.Therefore, we should focus on the design of new biomaterials to better understand the intrinsic relationship between polymer chemistry, cell biology and modern therapeutics. |
