Recently, since the considerable demand for high value products such as middle distillates (< 350oC) has been increased, the oil refining industry focused on efficient conversion from heavier to lighter oil. Hydrocracking technolgy is the representative example to convert heavy oil. However, the refractory features of heavy oil such as high contents of impurities and viscosity made a difficult to treat by hydrocracking technology used fixed bed reactor or ebullated bed reactor. Moreover, the catalysts used those kinds of reactions exhibited low activity as well as deactivation by poisoning. On the other hand, the slurry-phase hydrocracking technology was allowed to operate in heavy oil involving large amount of impurities. This technology has several advantages such as minimum low-value products, simple scheme of process, high conversion rates, low plugging, and a flexibility of raw feedstocks. In addition, the catalyst for the slurry-phase hydrocracking showed high activity and long lifetime during the hydrocracking process. Here, the catalyst for slurry-phase hydrocrakcing technology was developed by reflecting requirements such as catalyst dispersion in heavy oil, suppression of coke formation, high activity and low cost. The results of slurry-phase hydrocrakcing reaction performed by newly developed catalyst showed high selectivity of middle distillates and reduction of coke formation. |
