Diblock copolymers consisting of two immiscible polymers covalently bonded together spontaneously form periodic nanostructures such as spheres, cylinders, and lamellae. One dimensional photonic crystals which have periodic alternating structures of different refractive indices can be fabricated by lamellar nanostructures of diblock copolymers. In this study, lamellar nanostructures of symmetric polystyrene-polyisoprene diblock copolymers were utilized for photonic crystals and their optical properties were investigated. Optical characteristics of diblock copolymer photonic crystals including the band-gap were controlled by incorporating various additives such as homopolymers selectively in one of the blocks. |
