The improvement of solar energy-to-electricity conversion efficiency has continued to be an important research area of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Organic dyes, because of their many advantages, such as high molar extinction coefficients, convenience of customized molecular design for desired photophysical and photochemical properties, inexpensiveness with no transition metals contained, and environment-friendliness, are suitable as photosensitizers for DSSC. In this research, we designed and synthesized metal-free organic dyes containing triphenylamine as an electron donor in their charge-transfer chromophoric system. The DSSCs were prepared with the organic dyes and the photovoltaic properties were measured to identify the effects triphenylamine based chromophore with different number of thiophenes as a bridge unit on the performance of DSSCs. |
