Antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory effect of Caesalpinia sappan heartwood was studied both by in vitro models. caesalpinia asppan were extracted with 100% methanol and the fractionated with H2O, n-hexane, ethyl acetate and butyl alcohol to get active fraction. The antioxidant properties of the fractions were determined by several antioxidant methods ; free radical scavenging test (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl ; DPPH), reductive potentials method assay. The ethyl acetate fraction of caesalpinia asppan showed strong effects for reductive potential, free radical scaverging at tested concentrations. the active fraction showed anti-inflammatory effects by cytotoxic activity test(MTT) and nitric oxide(NO) assay. The active fraction suppressed nitric oxide(NO) generation in mouse macrophage Raw 264.7 cell stimulated by lipopolysaccharide. |
