The layered Li0.7MnO2 compounds were synthesized and characterized to investigate the effect of synthesis condition on the electrode performance of layered manganese. Na0.7MnO2 precursors were first synthesized by a sol-gel method using glycolic acid as a chelating agent. Layered sodium manganese having the Na0.7MnO2 were used to prepare layered lithium manganese oxides by ion exchange of Na by Li with LiBr in ethanol. Powder X-ray diffraction was used to confirm the structure of the phase. The Li0.7MnO2 can be indexed based on a rhombohedral phases with a space group R-3m. It exhibits a large reversible capacity of approximately 200 mAh/g in the 2.4-4.5 V range. |
