제목 Effect of different pH conditions on the properties of chemically deposited ZnS thin films in acidic medium
초록 Znic sulphide (ZnS) thin films were prepared on glass substrates by chemical bath deposition method using aqueous solutions of zinc acetate with thioacetimide at 80 °C for 30 min. in boiling water bath. The pH of the aqueous solution was varied from 3.0 to 5.0. The ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid disodium salt and hexamethylenetetramine were used as complexing agents. The effects of pH on the morphological, structural, chemical, and optical properties of ZnS thin films were investigated.  
X-ray diffraction results showed that all the deposited ZnS thin films were grown as a poly-crystalline with mixed cubic (zincblende) and hexagonal (wurtzite) structure without ZnO second phase. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results showed that there are both Zn-S and Zn-(OH) bondings in all deposited ZnS thin films. Field emission scanning electron microscopy images showed that ZnS thin films grown at pH 3 and 3.5 have aggregated clusters morphologies with thickness over 100 nm. However, films deposited at pH 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 have compact and uniform morphologies with thickness below 90 nm. Atomic force microscope measurements showed that root mean square values of surface roughness for ZnS thin films decreased from 15.7 nm to 4.0 nm with increasing pH. Energy dispersive spectroscopy study indicated that the presence of Zn atomic ratio in the deposited ZnS films were slightly rich with increasing pH. UV-Vis spectroscopy results showed that all the ZnS thin films have a high transmittance in visible region (~80 %) even thick of ZnS film. Optical band gap energy of ZnS thin films decreased from 3.85 eV to 3.74 eV with increasing pH. These results suggested that thickness and morphology of ZnS thin films deposited in acidic medium can be controlled by adjusting pH.
