Triethanolamine (TEAH) has been reported to be a hydrolysis retarding agent. In the atrane route, the interaction between metal alkoxides and TEAH leads to the formation of ordered mesoporous materials. Also, TEAH plays the role of a template molecule. It is worth noting that TEAH easily forms complexes with titanium alkoxides, yielding titanatranes complexes, which together with free TEAH form meso-sized aggregates that template mesopores upon raising the temperature of the synthesis mixture. Here, we investigated several synthesis parameters such as pH, the amount of surfactant, the mixing temperature and the aging temperature, and finally synthesized thermally stable mesoporous zirconia using TEAH and commercial alkyltrimethylammonium bromide. The zirconia samples were characterized by XRD, TEM and nitrogen physisorption analysis. The BET surface area of mesoporous zirconia was found to be larger than 300 m2/g after calcination at a high temperature of 500 ℃. The result of TEM analysis revealed that this material had a framework-confined wormhole pore structure. |
