In recent years, numerous researches have been performed on the development of high performance polymer nanocomposite, with the benefit of nanotechnology, to incorporate multi wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) into the polymer matrix. For fabrication of high performance polymer nanocomposites, major challenge is to improve the dispersion of MWCNT in the polymer matrix and the interfacial adhesion between MWCNT and the polymer matrix. In this study, poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) nanocomposites reinforced with a small quantity of MWCNT prepared by direct melt compounding in a twin screw extruder for achieving high performance polymer. The MWCNT was functionalized with chemical modification to introduce carboxylic groups onto the surfaces of MWCNT for uniform dispersion and good interfacial adhesion. The morphological, rheological, mechanical, and thermal properties of PET/MWCNT nanocomposites were characterized. |
