제목 Synthesis of Cyclic Carbonate from Carbon Dioxide and Butyl Glycidyl Ether Using Ionic Liquid as Catalysts
초록 Synthesis of cyclic carbonate from carbon dioxide and butyl glycidyl ether (BGE) was investigated using 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium salts as catalysts. The catalytic activity was studied in a batch reactor with 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium salts of different alkyl groups and counter anions. The reaction was carried out in an autoclave at 60 - 140 ℃ under carbon dioxide pressure of atmosphere - 300 psi. The conversion of BGE increased slightly when the alkyl group increased from ethyl to hexyl. More nucleophilich counter anion like Cl- showed better reactivity than PF6- and BF4-. High reaction temperature increased the BGE conversion, but the conversion decreased over 140 ℃ due to the partial decomposition of the cyclic carbonate to BGE. Kinetic studies are also performed to better understand the reaction mechanism. The effects of carbon dioxide pressure and the presence zinc bromide as co-catalyst on this reaction were also discussed.
