Diblock copolymers, which comprise two different homopolymers linked by the covalent bond, form nano-sized micelles consisting of a soluble corona and an insoluble core in a selective solvent for one of the blocks of copolymers. A monolayer of diblock copolymer micelles can be fabricated on the substrate by spin-coating, which can serve as an etching mask for the fabrication of nanostructured materials. For example, arrays of metal nanoparticles in the hexagonal order can be produced from single-layered diblock copolymer micelles, and this pattern of nanoparticles can be transferred to the substrate. In this study, we utilized the diblock copolymer micelles to fabricate nanostructured carbon materials such as graphite nanopillars and graphene nanodots. We also demonstrated that the size and inter-distance of nanostructured carbon materials were controlled by varying the molecular weight of diblock copolymers. |
