Organic Field-Effect Transistors based on Polymeric Self-Assembled Monolayers of Surface-Grafted Poly(3-hexylthiophene)s |

Poly(3-hexylthiophene) macroinitiators were synthesized chain-growth polycondensation. Poly(3-hexylthiophene)-b-Poly(3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate) (P3HT-b-PTMSPMA) diblock copolymer with low polydispersities were obtained via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of TMSPMA from the P3HT macroinitiator. By the immersion coating method, polymeric self-assembled monolayers (PSAMs) of P3HT-b-PTMSPMA were formed on silica substrates. Thickness and morphologies of PSAM was characterized by atomic force microscope (AFM). We fabricated organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) based on the PSAM. The charge carrier mobilities of the PSAM FET appeared higher than the other types of ultrathin film P3HT transistors reported previously.
