The adsorption behavior between heterocyclic ring, including oxygen and nitrogen atoms, in poly(benzoxazole) (PBO) and copper substrate was investigated. The sample of PBO/copper system was prepared by using heat treatment of PHA/copper system. The adhesive strength of PBO/copper system was measured as different bonding temperature. Result from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed that heterocyclic ring, including oxygen and nitrogen atoms, interacts specifically with copper surface. The quantitative analysis of XPS spectra indicates that the heterocyclic ring in PBO increased at near the interface. The competitive adsorption behavior between oxygen and nitrogen atoms was investigated by XPS and RAIR analysis.
