We describe the rational design, synthesis and characterization of the supramolecular amphiphilies as building blocks obtained by the esterification of the monodendrons, containing semiflorinated dodecyl tails and a dramatic development of orientation in supramolecular cylinders. This supramolecule self-assemble into supramolecular architectures that self-organize into hexagonal columnar liquid crystalline phase. Equilibrium phase transitions of the materials are identified by DSC, PLM, XRD and SEM. This columnar structure can be controlled by thermal annealing rate. This molecule slowly cooled down to the liquid crystalline phase. As a result, homeotropic alignment of LC films having the columnar long axis normal to the glass surface was achieved. To study the effect of supramolecular alignment on optical properties, UV adsorption and Photoluminescence (PL) experiments were performed. |
