Synthesis of PEO - b - PNiPAM via RAFT polymerization. |

In this study we prepared successfully water-soluble block copolymer exhibiting temperature-responsive behavior using PEO-based macroinitiator. n-Butyllithium -initiated ring-opening polymerization was performed in the mixture of benzene and DMSO, followed by chain-end functionalization to obtain macroinitiator for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Again, this PEO-based macroinitiator was converted into the RAFT (reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer) agent containing a dithioester group. Using the RAFT agent and AIBN as an initiator, RAFT polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NiPAM) was successfully performed in toluene at 80oC for 48 h. The resulting product was precipitated in excess diethyl ether. In this presentation, all the results for the above polymerization will be reported. |
