제목 Emulsifier-free polymerization of styrene stabilized by a hydrophilic macro RAFT agent
초록 In this study, a well-defined homopolymer of poly(methacrylic acid) has been synthesized by RAFT polymerization using 4-toulic acid dithiobenzoate as a chain transfer agent. The corresponding protonated homopolymer with a very reactive dithiobenzoate end group was used as a water soluble macromolecular chain transfer agent in the emulsion polymerization polymerization of styrene without any surfactant. The rigid micelles were formed by macro RAFT agent with hydrophilic property instead of initiator that performs a radical by oneself such as KPS in emulsifier -free emulsion polymerization(in the absence of monomer droplets). The reaction leads to a stable particle, as a result of in-situ formation of an amphiphilic block copolymer stabilizer, via chain transfer reaction to the dithioester functions during the nucleation step.
