A series of titanium oxides doped both with iron and boron were prepared by wet-impregnation and sol-gel methods, respectively, and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques such as XRD, XPS, SEM, TGA, ICP-AES, and BET. The formation and the relative amount of anatase to rutile heavily depend on the method of synthesis. Anatase is a unique phase obtained from the sol-gel method, and this phase continues even after doping, while it undergoes transformation to rutile when it is made by the wet-impregnation method. The surface properties are also affected by the synthetic methods as evidenced by XPS and SEM. These compounds show photocatalytic activities for VOC degradation under UV or visible light, and the relevant results will also be presented. |
