제목 | The Effects of Solvent Molecular Structure and Carbon Dioxide on the Phase Behavior of Poly (ethylene-co-norbornene) - Hydrocarbon Mixtures |
초록 | Poly(ethylene-co-norbornene) (PEN) is a new engineering plastic for optical applications, such as high-density compact disk, digital video disk, pick-up lens, and coating substrate. Since the properties of PEN vary with the contents of the ethylene and norbornene, the phase behavior information is essential to ensure that copolymerization takes place under homogeneous conditions to obtain a high yield and quality of the copolymer. In this study, we present the cloud-point behavior for the binary mixtures of poly(ethylene-co-53 mol% norbornene) (PEN53) and various hydrocarbon solvents to 170 °C and 1,500 bar. The effects of solvent molecular structures on the phase behavior are demonstrated in qualitative manner with branched- and cyclo-alkanes. The phase behavior of PEN53-toluene-carbon dioxide ternary system is also presented, which carbon dioxide acts as an antisolvent for PEN53-toluene mixture. |
