Cyclic polymers have been attracting attention over the last few decades, because of their distinct physical properties, such as high glass-transition temperatures, low instinct viscosity and lower hydrodynamic volume that differ from their linear counterparts. However, due to synthetic difficulty, obtaining the pure cyclic polymers remains still challenging. In this study, a series of highly pure theta-shaped polystyrenes (tri-bridged cyclic polystyrenes) was prepared by combining atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and “click” chemistry. The yield of cyclic polymers was calculated from GPC traces by Gaussian multipeak fitting. To obtain maximum yield and minimize side reactions, various parameters associated with Cu(І) catalyzed “click” reaction, such as types of ligand, concentration of catalyst, concentration of precursor polymer, feed rate of reactants are studied. Finally, high molecular weight theta-shaped polystyrene was synthesized by our optimized condition. |
