Self-assembly is a fancinating bottom-up method to make structures in the range of nanometers to micrometers. Recent studies show that stacking of rigid and planar aromatic “rods" can act as an inducer in generating new structures. In this study, a benzimidazole ring, which can interact each other via hydrogen bonds and can be stacked together, was selected as a key moiety for self assembly and series of benzimidazole-containing rodcoil molecules were synthesized. Self-assembled structures of synthesized molecules were investigated by NMR, TEM and XRD. |
