Synthesis and Evaluation of Novel Internal Energetic Plasticizer Containing Strained Polycyclic Group and Clickable Functional Group |

Strained polycyclic groups (SPGs) with clickable alkyne as internal energetic plasticizer (IEP) have been synthesized to investigate the ability on improving processibility of polyurethane binders. Since SPGs containing norbornane group are found to have higher enthalpy of formation than corresponding unstrained counterparts, the use of SPGs is expected to increase the energetic performance of energetic binders. These IEPs show good miscibility with glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) and poly(glycidyl azide-co-tetramethylene glycol) (PGT) polymers as well as decrease the viscosity of PU formuation. The migration resistance of IEPs can be improved by the “click” reaction between alkyne group and azido in prepolymer side chain. The extent of "click" reaction was calculated to be 100 % by GC after PU binder curing without catalyst. The effect of incorporated IEP on thermal and mechanical properties of GAP and PGT based PU binders is also investigated. |
