A study on the wetting properties of spin finishes using surface tension measurements |

In this study, physical-chemical methods have been used to characterize the effectiveness of spin finishes. The static and dynamic surface tensions of two series of spin finishes are shown to correlate differently with their wetting performance on PES foil. The first series consisting of solutions of an EO/PO copolymer with different molecular weight and the second being based on polyethyleneglycol in conjunction with an increasing amount of a wetting agent. It will be stated that only dynamic surface tensions correlate well with the spreading ability of the two different series on PES foil. With those result, the best formulation of spin finish having durable hydrophilic property could be obtained. |
