To overcome drawbacks of Poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) such as brittleness and low heat resistance, PLLA was modified by blending PLLA resin with poly(D-lactide) (PDLA)/clay nanocomposites. Firstly, we focused on the preparation and characterization of PDLA/clay nanocomposites in this study. For the preparation of PDLA/clay nanocomposites, various kinds of organoclays were prepared by cation exchanging of pristine MMT (Cloisite® Na+) with various kinds of organifiers having reactive hydroxyl terminal groups and different soft segments such as poly(tetramethylene ether glycol), poly(ethylene adipate) diol and polycaprolactone diol. After that, PDLA/clay nanocomposites were prepared by in-situ ring-opening polymerization of D-lactide monomer with organoclays as macro-initiator using Brabender mixer. The molecular weights, morphologies, silicate layer structures and thermal properties of PDLA/clay nanocomposites were investigated by NMR, GPC, TEM, XRD, DSC and TGA. |
