제목 | Rheological Characterization of PEO-PMMA Blend/Organoclay Nanocomposites |
초록 | PEO-PMMA blend/organoclay nanocomposites were prepared from a solvent casting method and intercalation of polymer chains into the galleries of organosilicate layers were confirmed by XRD. In the PEO-PMMA blend nanocomposites system, the X-ray diffraction verified the selective intercalation of PEO chains due to the dominant composition effect of PEO portion in the blend, despite the superior affinity of PMMA for organocaly in separate systems. Surface morphologies and microstructures were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. From the change of weight loss in TGA curve, the effect of clay content on thermal stability of polymer blend/clay nanocomposites was examined. Steady shear viscosities, showing dramatic non-Newtonian behavior starting from the low shear rate region, were expressed using a Carreau model. Storage and loss modulus in a dynamic mode indicated that solid-like behavior over 5 wt% of clay content occurred. Zero shear viscosities obtained from Carreau model curvefitting were well correlated with those from creep experiments. Furthermore, we found that homogeneity of the nanocomposites tends to decrease with clay content based on the examination of validity in Cox-Merz correlation and Schwarzl analysis. |
