제목 Sulfonated Polystyrene/Teflon Composite membranes for DMFC
초록 This paper describes the preparation and characterization of sulfonated PS/PTFE composite membranes for the application to direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). The composite membranes with various compositions of stryrene/DVB were prepared through impregnation of monomer mixtures, thermal crosslinking polymerization and sulfonation with chlorosulfonic acid. SEM and ATR-FTIR observations confirmed that porous PTFE substrates were efficiently filled with crosslinked polymers. Swelling degree and ion exchange capacity (IEC) of the resulting membranes were measured as a function of styrene/DVB ratio and those values were decreased with the higher DVB content. Ion conductivity and methanol permeability of the sulfonated composite membranes were also investigated. It was found that methanol permeability, with decrement of styrene/DVB ratio, varied from 6.6×10-7 to 1.3×10-7 ㎠/s, indicating that they hold better properties than Nafion117 (1.02×10-6 ㎠/s). Ion conductivity ranged from 0.11 S/cm (25 ℃) to 0.08 S/cm (25 ℃) with decrement of styrene/DVB ratio, comparable to the value of Nafion117(0.0824 S/cm).
