Due to their large chemically active surface and stability at high temperatures carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been used as a support material for the dispersion and stabilization of metal and semiconductor nanoparticles (NPs). In this study, gold nanoparticles were introduced to the wall of functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT). To control the size of the gold nanoparticles, we adopt the citrate reduction method for the synthesis of the gold nanoparticles coated on the carbon nanotubes as multiwalled carbon nanotube/gold (MWCNT-Au) nanocomposites. Assembling gold particles on MWCNTs might be used to identify the location of functional groups of MWCNTs and to improve the conductivity of polmer/MWCNT composites as well. Distributed gold nanoparticles on MWCNTs is analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy(TEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). |
